The exact menu path to import a loot filter, plus the Season 5 filter changes worth making after a new league starts.
Last Epoch Loot Filter Location: The Import Path and the Season 5 Fixes
The loot filter manager sits at Settings, then Gameplay, then Manage Loot Filters — scroll past the gameplay toggles to the row that also carries the Shift + F binding, click the green + at the top of the window, and choose Paste Clipboard Contents. That gets a filter in. It does not make that filter correct for Season 5, and most "my loot filter is not working" posts are a filter that imported fine and hides the wrong things.
Three things to know first:
- The clipboard must hold the filter's XML text, not the file, not a link, not a path. That is why the paste button greys out when you copied the wrong thing.
- Rules run top to bottom and the first match wins. A broad Hide rule above your Show rules deletes everything under it.
- A filter cannot change what drops. It changes what the game announces, recolours or emphasises.

The import path, step by step
- Open Settings. You can do this from the login screen, which is why people report the option missing — the filter list is local and loads before you pick a character.
- Go to Gameplay and scroll to Manage Loot Filters. In some builds the same row sits under Interface, labelled
Shift + F | Manage Loot Filters. If you cannot find it, pressShift + F; same window. - Click the green
+at the top of the filter window. - Click Paste Clipboard Contents. It is greyed out unless the clipboard currently holds valid filter text.
- Rename it. Imported names are whatever the author typed, so you end up with four Season 4 filters called the same thing.
- Pick it from the drop-down at the top of the interface to activate it.
A second route skips the UI: drop the .xml into C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\LocalLow\Eleventh Hour Games\Last Epoch\Filters, where filters live next to but separate from character saves. A July 2022 community answer on the official forum says only characters go through the Steam Cloud save, so after a reinstall, assume your filters are gone.
The most common import failure is copying the .xml itself from Explorer or a browser download bar and hitting paste. The game wants the text inside. Open the raw source, select all, copy, then paste — the button greys out when the clipboard holds anything else, which is how the game signals that without an error message.
Symptom, cause, fix
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Paste button is greyed out | Clipboard holds a file, URL or pastebin page, not the filter text | Open the raw source, select all, copy the XML text |
| Error reading the selected filter | XML was truncated or wrapped in something else | Re-copy the raw text in one pass, or use the Filters folder |
| Filter imported, ground is empty | A Hide rule sits above your Show rules | Specific rules to the top, catch-all Hide to the bottom |
| Everything shows, trash included | The catch-all Hide rule is below your Show rules | Move it last, not first |
| Season 5 items never appear | Allow-list filters only un-hide uniques they name | Add the new uniques by name, or use rarity rules |
| Filter vanished after reinstall | Filters are local files, not in the Steam Cloud save | Keep the XML off the machine and re-import |
| Recolouring does nothing to one drop | Recolor also applies Show, and a rule above already hid it | Reorder — higher rules override recolour rules |
Rule order: why a working import still looks broken
The manager offers three visibility actions — Show, Hide and Recolor — plus Emphasize, which renders the label in capitals. Order is what trips people up: in a February 2024 official forum thread, the behaviour is stated plainly — if a rule applies to an item, it does not check any rules below it. No merge, no override. First rule that matches, done.
So a Hide everything rule at the top kills every Show rule beneath it, which is the classic broken-filter post where someone insists they already told it to show exalted. And Recolor is not purely cosmetic: it counts as a Show, a deliberate choice other players argue about on that thread because it makes recolour rules double as allow rules.
Working order: specific Show and Recolor rules at the top, then catch-all Show rules for the rarities you want, then Hide everything at the very bottom.
Three things a Season 4 filter gets wrong in Season 5
New base types, eighteen of them. Rage of Morditas added eighteen item subtypes, all level requirement 50 — Veinweave Belt, Icescale Greaves, Eber Horn Gauntlets, Ice Pick, Bloodsoaked Dagger, Gnarled Antler, Warden Sceptre, Icicle Sword, Farwood Branch, Frozen Cleaver, Carnage Maul, Bloodfused Icicle, Axe Staff, Bloodfused Blade, Bloodpelt Quiver, Icespike Shield, Frozen Skull, Icicle Bow. A filter built on a low-affix-count Rare cutoff was tuned against an older base pool, and a freshly rolled base with modest affixes is exactly what that cutoff swallows. Their source is our Rage of Morditas farm guide; what their Forging Potentials are worth is in the Ice and Blood guide.
Sixteen new Uniques and two sets, none in your allow-list. Heorot's Repose, Morditas' Vengeance, Frostborn Solitude, Devoured Knowledge, Perilous Reflection, Unbroken Legion, Fused Elements, Wrangler's Keepsake, Withstand the Elements, Effusive Oath, Scorched Earth, Vestige of Imprisonment, Gift of the Eidolon, Eternal Font, Death Dance and Unsated Rage, plus the Caretaker's Regrowth and Caretaker's Wrath sets. Name uniques one by one and sixteen of them stay invisible until you add them — the full list is in our Season 5 uniques reference. Gift of the Eidolon, Eternal Font and Death Dance are described by the developers as rarer than a Red Ring, and hotfix 1.5.1.1 restricted all three to level 80+ areas, so filtering one out is a cheap way to never see it.
Variant affixes are a new category. Withstand the Elements picks two variant affixes from a pool of eight, each scaling with cold or physical resistance; Unsated Rage rolls one permanent Rage buff from a pool exclusive to that Unique. The 1.5 patch notes record exactly one loot filter change all season, and it is here: a Variant category added to the affix selector. A filter with a hard-coded affix list has no entry for any of it.
Players asked for exactly this in September 2025 — a marker showing which items and affixes are new this patch. It was not added, and the Season 5 notes do not mention adding one. Until it is, the official New Uniques post is your authoritative list of what to add.
Season 5 item categories worth unhiding
Circle of Fortune Prophecy slots now hand out three item categories that did not exist before the patch. They arrive as Rare or Exalted gear, the band most filters strip hardest, and each upgrades as your Prophecy rank climbs.
| Category | First appears | Upgrades | What a stale rule does to it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rare Champion Item | Rank 5 | Rank 7 to Exalted, Rank 9 to T6+, Rank 11 to T7 | Hidden by low-affix-count Rare rules; its champion affix is always T6 or higher |
| Rare Harbinger's Spoils | Rank 6 — weapons and off-hands that upgrade when slaying a Harbinger | Rank 10 to Exalted | Hidden by rules that hide off-hand or weapon bases you stopped using |
| Rare Experimental Item | Rank 6 | Rank 8 to Exalted, Rank 9 to T6+, Rank 12 to T7 | Hidden by affix-count filters; its experimental affix is always T6 or higher |
Because the champion and experimental affixes are guaranteed T6 or better, keep Exalted gear with at least one tier-6 affix visible rather than hiding Rare gear below an affix count. If you trade this counts twice: filtering out another class's gear protects your screen but leaves nothing to sell. The faction rewrite is covered in what changed with item factions in Season 5. Do not confuse any of this with the Bazaar's own search filters, reorganised this patch and behaving nothing like a loot filter.
What a loot filter does not change
Drop rates are untouched. A filtered item still drops; what stops is the nameplate announcing it. Hiding a weapon class does not make it rarer and saves no pick-up time — it makes the item invisible while it still lands on the ground. Hiding your target does not thin it out, it guarantees you walk past it.
Because one filter applies to every character on the account, including Legacy and offline characters, this bites hardest on day one of a season, when the same ruleset suddenly judges a different loot pool. Keep a Season 4 copy for old farming and make a fresh one, using the Season 5 starter builds list to decide what it should keep. And if the game itself is misbehaving, check the Season 5 bug and hotfix tracker before rewriting rules; several Season 5 drops problems turned out to be client bugs fixed in hotfix 1.5.1.1.
FAQ
Where is the loot filter in Last Epoch?
Settings, Gameplay, Manage Loot Filters. In builds where that row moved it sits under Interface, labelled Shift + F | Manage Loot Filters. Pressing Shift + F in game opens the same window.
How do I import someone else's loot filter?
Copy the raw XML text to your clipboard, open the filter window, click the green +, choose Paste Clipboard Contents. A greyed-out button means the clipboard lacks valid filter text — the raw-versus-file distinction is covered in this forum how-to.
Why did my imported filter hide everything? Rule order. Rules run top down and the first match ends evaluation, so a Hide rule above your Show rules makes them unreachable.
Does a loot filter change my drop rate? No. It controls whether a drop is announced, recoloured or emphasised. The item still drops.
My filter stopped showing new Season 5 uniques? Allow-list filters only show names inside them, and Season 5 added sixteen Uniques plus two sets. Add them by name or switch to rarity rules.
