Last Epoch Crafting: Ice and Blood Forging Potential

Season 5 added Ice and Blood Forging Potential to the Forge. How shards, affix tiers, Legendary Potential and the new potentials fit together.

Last Epoch Crafting: Ice and Blood Forging Potential

Season 5 added two new kinds of Forging Potential, and both only appear on Rage of Morditas rewards. Ice Forging Potential has a chance to be preserved when you craft with it; Blood Forging Potential raises your critical success chance. Which one an item carries is decided by the ritual you spent a Bloodrage Charge on, so the fork happens at the reward panel, not in the Forge.

You used to pick a base and then decide how hard to push it. Now you decide what kind of gamble it should be, and every craft inherits that.

What Season 5 Actually Added

Official source: Rage of Morditas — Coming to Last Epoch October 1

Ice Forging Potential has a chance to be preserved when used in crafting, and Blood Forging Potential raises the critical success chance when crafting. Only items rewarded by Rage of Morditas can have one of these new Forging Potentials.

An Ice or Blood FP item from an ordinary drop did not come from a Blood Crystal, and both types are seasonal content, not a permanent rebalance. This page is valid for Patch 1.5.1.1, shipped October 3, 2026; the Season 5 overview covers the rest.

Ice FP, Blood FP, and the Ritual Decision

Forging Potential Source What it does Best fit
Ice Forging Potential Frozen Ritual (frost rune) Chance to be preserved when used in crafting Bases you craft on repeatedly across several sessions
Blood Forging Potential Bloody Ritual (blood rune) Raises the critical success chance Short, decisive crafts where you want the outcome now
Neither Anything not awarded by Rage of Morditas Standard Forging Potential only Bases you just need to finish

The rituals reshape the panel too, and that is the real cost. A Frozen Ritual locks out one slot and rerolls the rest into the same item type, with a higher chance of similar affixes. A Bloody Ritual banishes that slot, rerolls the rest, and blocks that item type until you claim. Rare and exalted items all carry Ice FP after a Frozen Ritual, and all carry Blood FP after a Bloody Ritual.

Every ritual burns one of five slots. EHG's tradeoff: more sacrifices mean fewer options but better items. Chasing Blood FP is not free, since each Bloody Ritual narrows the pool you pick from.

Read the ritual, not the item

An item's FP type tells you which ritual produced it, not which to use next. You pick the ritual, then take the roll.

Glyph of Despair plus Blood FP is unresolved

A player asked EHG whether Blood FP makes Glyph of Despair riskier, since a crit on that glyph is unwanted. No answer, and no patch note through 1.5.1.1 explains what a crit does there. Do not plan a slam around it.

The Forge Vocabulary, Once

From the official items page:

  • Shards add new affixes or increase the tier of an existing affix. They alone change affix count or tier, which is why slamming burns Forging Potential.
  • Runes modify items other ways, such as removing an undesired affix or rerolling values inside a range. Runes do not raise tiers.
  • Glyphs are used with a shard or rune to modify the effects of a craft.
  • Tiers run to seven per affix, and the lowest roll of a tier is always higher than the tier below it. That is why a T7 is worth building a base around.

Season 5 added stash macros: skill4 matches a T7 level-of-skill affix, skills7 a T7 plus a T6, aff/Hybrid Health/7 a T7 Hybrid Health affix. Fold them into an old filter via the loot filter guide.

Sealed Affixes and the Level Gates

Corruption rules got tighter in 1.5, as hard thresholds:

  • Below area level 80, precorrupted items cannot roll T7 affixes.
  • Below area level 50, precorrupted items cannot roll T6 affixes.
  • Runes of Corruption on items with a level requirement below 55 cannot roll T7; below 35 cannot roll T6.
  • Rune of Evolution's maximum Forging Potential cost dropped from 25 to 15.

That matters most for anyone who slams. It is the only FP number EHG changed in Patch 1.5, making high-tier Evolution crafts cheaper than in Season 4.

On Uniques, the official items page is blunt: they cannot be modified through the Forge, though some have the potential to become Legendary. Patch 1.5 also fixed an issue where you could not corrupt a unique item that came from ascending one with a sealed affix.

Three Ways Season 5 Feeds Legendary Potential

Circle of Fortune, Rank 9. The Lens of Quality gives unique rewards higher average Legendary Potential and grants rare or exalted rewards a chance to upgrade a random affix tier. Bought Lenses apply to your whole stash; the item factions page has the ladder.

Bloody Ritual on the panel. Easy to misread: the Ritual goes on one item, and a different item, the variant Unique in the same panel, is what changes.

Merchant's Guild pricing. Season 5 suggested prices come from actual sales of items sharing key attributes such as Legendary Potential or exalted affixes, with a tooltip breaking down what pushed the price. LP is now a priced market attribute you can shop for.

EGH has not published the conversion recipe. The circulated route using an LP-bearing Unique and a four-affix Exalted of the same base type, resolved at an Eternity Cache, is community consensus, not patch-note text.

Variant Uniques and What Each Ritual Does

Two of the sixteen new Season 5 Uniques use variant affixes. Withstand the Elements picks two from a pool of eight that scale with cold or physical resistance. Unsated Rage picks one of 27 Rage buffs that otherwise exist only as encounter buffs. EHG's term is variant affixes, not a rarity class.

These two appear in the Rage of Morditas panel when it is fully refreshed with five new items, and can also drop from Morditas and Pinnacle Morditas. What each ritual does to them is what most players misread:

  • A Frozen Ritual on another item re-rolls which variant affix the Unique has. That is how you fish for a specific Rage buff.
  • A Bloody Ritual on another item has a chance to add either Legendary Potential or corrupt the item. That is the LP line, and corruption is the risk on the same roll.

Both spend a sacrificial slot, so this competes with the Blood FP grind for the same charges. More in the Season 5 uniques guide.

Why the Merchant's Guild Filter Change Matters

Official source: Faction Updates — Coming to Last Epoch October 1

The # of T7s filter now ignores sealed affixes, making it better suited for finding Rune of Havoc and Redemption crafting bases, and the new # of T6s filters makes it easier to find those stepping stone exalts.

EHG is admitting sealed affixes were polluting your T6 and T7 counts. A Havoc or Redemption base wants its high tiers counted from affixes you can still craft on. The affix picker also gained grouped searches with an optional minimum match count: All, Any, Prefixes, Suffixes, Non-Sealed and Sealed. Prefixes and Suffixes match only non-sealed affixes.

What is still not official

The notes name Havoc and Redemption as targets and adjust filters for them, but never describe how either rune picks affixes or the odds. Recipes for forcing a T7 with Havoc are player testing.

The Numbers Nobody Has Published

If you came for the Ice FP preserve chance, the Blood FP crit bonus, a shard drop rate, or the formula linking Forging Potential to item level, none exist in an official source as of Patch 1.5.1.1 on October 3, 2026. The 1.5, 1.5.1 and 1.5.1.1 notes describe both potentials qualitatively.

Community figures in discords and videos, including free-craft rates for Glyph of Hope, Glyph of Despair behaviour and Havoc's odds, are not in the notes.

FAQ

Can an item have both Ice and Blood Forging Potential? Unconfirmed. Nothing published covers both types on one item, or multiple copies.

Can I forge a Unique to raise its Legendary Potential? No. Uniques cannot be modified in the Forge. The Bloody Ritual interaction is a reward-panel mechanic, not a Forge craft, and it applies to the variant Uniques that appear there.

I found an Ice FP item that did not come from a Blood Crystal. Check the source first. Only Rage of Morditas rewards carry the new potentials, and those encounters appear from campaign Chapter 2 onward, plus as Blood Crystals in the Monolith.
